In this article, Mohammed Abu-Nimer critically examines the emerging field of Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE), focusing on Islamic peace and interreligious peacebuilding as alternative approaches. He explores how various CVE/PVE strategies relate to issues of violent extremism within Muslim communities and identifies intersections between interreligious peacebuilding and CVE/PVE approaches. The article emphasizes the importance of understanding the assumptions and functions of CVE/PVE in addressing the current challenges faced by governments worldwide, particularly in Europe and North America.
